Introduction

Hello Everyone :)

My name is Jasmine Orr and I am super excited to be a facilitator this year!  I am a masters student in Speech and Hearing Sciences. I earned my B.S. and B.A. from UNC Greensboro in Speech Pathology and Spanish, and minored in American Sign Language. Upon graduation, I plan on working in a hospital setting with individuals with neurogenic speech and language disorders.

Since entering my undergraduate career, I have noticed a need for greater representation in global engagement. Having access to pieces of the world that expand beyond our own cultures and experiences can allow us to become well-rounded individuals. The opportunity to learn and engage with other cultures and views, has allowed me to expand my knowledge base not only in my clinical work, but in my personal life. I would like the opportunity to expand the viewpoints of our scholars by engaging them in a trip around the world that begins in their own town, and ends in places they may have never thought they'd go.

Global engagement has revealed to me the importance of cultural competence, inclusion, and open-mindedness. Consistently traveling around and outside of the country has become a personal goal of mine as I know that there are endless possibilities for growth and experiences wherever I go. As a high school student, I never thought much about traveling outside of my comfort zone, and now I realize that it is essential. It is my hope that by giving our scholars the exposure I wasn't given at their age,  they can hit the ground running and experience the world for themselves!
